Operability Studies
Sectors we work with
Embark Consulting HAZOP solutions conduct hazard and operability studies across a varied range of industries and processes.

From upstream production facilities, gas processing plants, oil separation units, to construction projects during the design phase and chemical and pharmaceutical processes
What is a HAZOP?
A hazard and operability study (HAZOP) is a structured and systematic examination of a planned or existing process or operation with the task to identify and evaluate processes that may represent risks to personnel, environment, or equipment or prevent efficient operation. It is carried out by a suitably experienced multi-disciplinary team (HAZOP team) during a set of meetings.

The HAZOP technique is qualitative and aims to stimulate participants' imagination to identify potential hazards and operability problems; structure and completeness are given by using guideword prompts. The relevant international standard calls for team members to display intuition and good judgment and hold meetings in a climate of positive thinking and frank discussion.
How can we support your HAZOP?
Our experience has been developed and honed, so that we can provide our customers with a HAZOP that is structured with industry experts as the facilitators (Chair Person) who have the innate ability to drive the study and delve sufficiently into the teams experience to identify potential hazards and operability problems.
Our HAZOP solutions are flexible and scalable to your project requirements, with the full process managed in-house from terms of reference, to drawing mark-ups, HAZOP scribing and onto reporting, close out actions and consequence analysis

Frequently a HAZOP will lead onto further studies (LOPA, QRA, SIL) and thats where our Safety Engineering expertise will bring added value to the overall risk management process for your project.
Using The Latest HAZOP
Innovations
We work hard to ensure that your HAZOP is cost and time-efficient. We achieve this by recent innovations in HAZOP techniques that will assist our HAZOP team in considering all risks whilst agreeing on an acceptable level of tolerable risk.

The development of technologies is also
being applied
for ‘line-walking’ HAZOP’s that review an existing process against the P&ID’s available for review.
