What are the CDM2015 Regulations?

The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 are a set of health and safety regulations that apply to construction projects.

 

The regulations were created in 1994 to improve the health and safety of construction projects.

The regulations were revised in 2007 and then again with the current version in 2015.

The regulations outline steps that should be taken to ensure that health and safety risks are managed effectively throughout construction projects. 

 

The regulations places health and safety responsibilities on duty holders which are involved in construction projects. These duty holders are clients, principal designer, principal contractor, designers, contractors, and workers.

Who are you ?

The

Client ?

A commercial client is anyone (individual, partnership, or organisation) who has construction work carried out for them that is done in connection with a business, whether the business operates for profit or not.

Principal

Contractor ?

A principal contractor is the contractor with control over the construction phase of a project involving more than one contractor. They are appointed in writing by the client (commercial or domestic) to plan, manage, monitor and coordinate health and safety during this phase.

Contractor ?

A contractor is an organisation or individual who directly employs or engages construction workers or as part of their business carries out, manages or controls construction work (e.g. building, altering, maintaining or demolishing).  Contractors include sub-contractors, any individual, sole trader or self-employed worker

Principal

Designer ?

A principal designer is the person organisation with control over the pre-construction phase who has the relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The principal designer does not have to carry out actual design work on the project.

Designer ?

A designer is an organisation or individual whose work involves preparing or modifying designs for construction projects, or arranging for, or instructing, others to do this.
